heart of wonder
threads of improvisation
This two-person exhibit was shown at The Artists Hand Gallery, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, October 20 - November 11, 2023. Sandy Trimble, a weaver, was my partner. This was the first time a theme captured me and compelled me to express myself through my art form. The notion of improvisation is an interesting one. Certainly one can understand from American history how jazz musicians improvised together to create a uniquely distinct sound. But what is improvisation when the instruments are needles and thread?
I am beckoned to move past the ordinary
and traverse into wild and tangled landscapes,
moving with risk to promise.
Each creation is like giving birth
to that which is within.
With each birth
this dark weight is lifted,
a great longing revealed.
If only for a moment
I hear and feel a shift.
I see and feel the Light.
I am at home.
